The Clipper Weatherman combines a selective HF receiver, a powerful computer and a high contrast display in a single compact instrument case. The compact display unit will grace any instrument panel.
The "Weatherman" is programmed to receive weather information from the German Weather Service. Broadcasts are continuous, they can be selected in either the English or German languages and include the 12 hour outlook, 2-day and 5-day forecasts.
The user can choose which messages to store in the memory, which is capable of holding several thousand lines of text.
The NASA Clipper Weatherman is a flush mount unit - see below for cradle bracket.
For many years commercial vessels have received weather forecasts via radioteletype (RTTY) from the German National Weather Agency (DWD). Whilst a few intrepid yachtsmen have tuned into this excellent service with an HF receiver and a PC results have often been disappointing. DWD operates on a 24 hour continuous schedule on several frequencies simultaneously. The service covers the whole of Europe from the coast of Africa in the South to the Northern tip of Norway and from the Baltic and Black Sea in the East, to the Canaries and Faroes in the West. However for some reason Ireland and the Irish Sea are excluded!
